Three girls going to school in a living hell I just hope to god they don't step on a shell For their president Assad just does not care Orders his air force to drop bombs everywhere Assad must be stopped, the world must find a way He should be tried for war crimes and made to pay.

The irony Tom! When we put an end to one. the populace complains! Explain that one? Do people think killers like Assad should go free? Sadly, many all over the world do not understand. Mad dogs must be put down. Panagiota

I totally agree, the leader of ISIS blew himself up, it was sad that one of the army dogs got injured in the mission. Tom

Another brilliant verse from your very versatile quill, Tom, again depicting the plight of our precious children around the world. Thanks for commenting on the Soul of an angel write. Soup used to sponsor international poetry contests a few years back and I got lucky with this one. Best on you and yours - Bob

Wow! I agree with the need to prosecute war crimes. (You and I had similar interpretations of the same tragic photo.) Best wishes for a win, Carolyn

Your poetic social commentary speaks volumes through the spilled ink of your potent pen, Tom, and paints a poignant portrait of the perils the innocents must face. A powerful plea, my friend. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

You're so right. Bashar Assad has turned into a bigger butcher than his father was... But who will stop him? ---Not the enfeebled chicken, Trump... Nor will Israel unless Assad attacks Israel directly … With Putin's backing, Mr. Assad is secure, I'm afraid... Great write! ~ Gershon

Thanks Gershon, your words are spot on, Putin cosies up to him so he can get his foot in the door of the middle east, the snake that he is. Tom

It is always the innocents that suffer at times of conflict and war. Your poem portrays this so well Tom. Such a sad picture and as you say it breaks your heart to realise this is happening in this day and age. Good luck in the contest. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

My heart aches knowing that kids are not safe anymore- to go to school. How things have changed, and not for the better. This title fits your words perfectly. A "Living Hell" So sad indeed. I am praying. ~ Brandy

Thank you Brandy, its hard to believe that in this modern world indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets goes on, schools, hospitals and living areas. What riles me is they deny that it happening, then we see evidence from reporters' on the ground who provide solid evidence. An evil world we live in. Tom

G'day Tom … war has a tendency to destroy the innocent folk and this also destroys the sanity of those lucky enough to survive. Your verse highlights this with three little girls - thanks Tom - Lindsay
