Live

"Leave before you live" They taught you that, everything you loved was a distraction. They made you walk the paved road of normality. It had no flowers to give colour to the journey, Or thorns, To tear your skin away and confirm you're still alive. They made you choose footsteps, Of shoes way smaller than yours. They made you chase an endless trail of dreams Only for you to wake up and realise too late that you weren't really living, Just reliving The picture perfect life society painted for you. Only, You choked on the dust behind the canvas of that ill_painted piece of corrupted art. They lied to you That grass was greener on the other side, Till you got there and realized You weren't even a herbivore. The worst part is, You let them do it. Now you're eighty, Wishing you could erase the past. Sorry;History is pretty awful at forgetting. Now your eyes are too blind for flowers. Your skin is too tough for thorns. You're at the end of the journey But it feels like you're in the middle of some desert, And the life you could have lived is only a mirage away. But time's up, Or so does the flattening line on the cardiogram say. Live.then.leave Elliepoet™
