Little Child
Little Child
By: Emily Kroeger
Little child,
Stay innocent. . .
Little child,
I am young too. . .
Only seven years separate our ages. . .
A seven-year difference and I have lost my innocence.
Little child,
Only seven years ago. . .
Little child,
I was as innocent as you are. . .
Oh little child,
Do not surrender to their sly smiles. . .
Little child,
I too, gave into their smiles, once. . .
Once is all it took. . .
My smile has been forever marked. . .
Oh little child,
Stay sturdy. . .
Stand firm. . .
Do not let their words corrupt your innocent soul. . .
Little child,
Do not fall into their hearts of fire. . .
Little child,
I know, you know that they will ruin you. . .
Little child,
I knew if I followed them, I would never be the same again. . .
Little child,
I still followed; I thought they were the answer. . .
Little child,
Keep your innocence. . .
Because once you give it away, you cannot bring it back.
