Little Boys
The park an open field, little boys
Wide-eyed anticipation - much joy,
Mysteries of the grass and dirt awaits
Unable to control selves at gate
Imagination vividly before
Running, laughing, falling some more,
A big bug is seen crawling yonder
Lingering, small lads watch in wonder
Adults find it hard to understand
As they yell to issue a command,
"Stop," "Don't go," "Do as I say - sit down."
Sitting - until awaited friend found
Up they jump - running "far far" away-
To the next tree where it's safe to play,
Another world comes to little minds
As each new treasure they do find
Occasional preoccupation
In quiet, secret contemplation
Thinking about last night's video
And, how to become like the hero
Trees to climb; holes to dig; explore
Future scientists on earth's floor,
Mixing soils and bugs with nearby sand
Oh! Me! Little boys, look at your hands!
To the water faucet - a new game
Clean but smelly; more fun just the same,
The present so precious - fleeting fast
Tomorrow's opportunities vast
Today - run after the butterfly
Find the make-believe rabbit in sky,
Climb, climb higher, run faster than wind,
God bless and keep you, my little friends.
