Listen Close

I wonder if the trees will cry
When their leaves begin to die
I wonder if they feel the pain
As the wind comes blowing by

I wonder if the flowers smile
When the sun begins to stare
I wonder if the raindrops race
To the puddle that they share

I wonder if the rainbow's colors
Are envious of their neighbor
Or do they talk and say hello
As their colors begin to labor

I wonder if the mountains high
Are striving to be the tallest
Or do they share that glorious view
From the biggest to the smallest

I wonder if the earth itself
Has warned us of its doom
Has it revealed in vain to man
Of its impending gloom

I wonder if we'll listen close
Could we hear our planet cry
Or will we ignore its call for help
And watch it slowly die

I may be overly emotional today, Larry, but after reading John Loving's poem and now yours, the tears are flowing. I do think our planet is crying out for help. Your opening verses describe the beauty that may be lost if we're not careful. I do hear the cry! Love, Carolyn
