Lining My Treasure Chest
An easy day watching nature
yearning for material to write and then...
I fed a squirrel today
At first it was fun
he captured the almond in his paws
and ate with gusto to my applause.
I placed another nearer, bravely
he snaked toward it
plucking it up quick and sure.
Then, the problem began.
A second squirrel wanted roasted almonds
he wavered toward my pet.
They raced around in circles
one hoping to keep; one hoping to get.
Suddenly, both stood before me
as though begging to be fed
Too close for comfort I thought
Nearly jumping off the bench,
I sprinted down Bull Run.
How lovely I reminisced
to be given such insight
such delicious words to write
as I watched nature in delight.
