Lines and Wrinkles

I wish that I could just erase
The lines and wrinkles on my face
And also all that sagging skin
That proves which decade I am in.

When women crow, so smug with pride,
About their age, which they won’t hide,
I think, “Yeah, right! I’m really sold
On how much you like looking old!”

I won’t get face-lift surgery
And it would not be perjury
To say that Botox ain’t my thing,
Despite the smoothness it would bring.

So I will bear my aging mien,
Accepting that the senior scene
Is where, at my age, I must be,
But I’d prefer it mirror-free!

After reading this I have added on extra lines and wrinkles, Ilene....from the big smile you elicited by this delightful poem. As for mirrors...they show but don't tell:) Regards // paul

I'm right with you here Ilene. Plastic surgery for the most part doesn't look very good. With the money I have I'd probably end of looking like the elephant man! Another very enjoyable poem, well written and rhymed!

I've seen horror picture of women who went under the knife to look prettier, but, but, they came out like clowns... good stuff; you are lovely the way you are!...huggs

thank you, nette, for that lovely comment! i've also seen those pictures and it's pretty awful when someone's face comes out looking so stiff and distorted after surgery...

Fascinating poem though not to worry much. Men are just as vain! Shall we just grin and bear it?

glad to hear that men go through the same thing, juaneco! often, though, older men somehow look "distinguished" as opposed to old. i guess we all have no choice but to "just grin and bear it," as you say. thanks for writing...

Maybe Ilene, but the real beauty is under the skin. A price we all pay for wisdom.

I would get plastic surgery one day IF I ever get the money. It is just the practical thing to do these days, but of course, who can pay for it. That is the problem. Loved this.

to me, it's a combination of fear and also not wanting to look like some of the disastrous outcomes i've seen. i'll stick with a little hair color and living with the wrinkles and sagging skin. thanks for reading...
