Notes About The Poem

Like Wind Chimes

like wind chimes
                the tenebrous fate
of society's downtrodden
               h
               a
               n
               g
               s
on a slender thread
threatening to snap,
     tugged
          even tighter
               by the elephantine weight
                    of their woes.

sad, though...

it's sad we don't listen to
     their anguished c r i e s
          like we attentively do
               the mellisonant tunes
                    of wind chimes.

how come?

Edward, the depth of your compassion comes through with a stunning clarity my friend. I love the contrast to your focal biblical verse. The formatting of the poem so reinforces your words. Congratulations on your win. Blessings to your heart and pen.

Congratulations on this winner in Brian's contest. Way to go. Life is not easy for some people but even worse for others. Someday it will all be made right. Sara

I often wonder as a society and even as an individual are we doing enough or are we just happy to look the other way and pretend we don't notice. Tom

I'd go with the latter part, Tom. I find our laissez-faire attitude quite heartbreaking. We should be doing a LOT more to help the downtrodden pull themselves up from their dire circumstances.
