Life's Little Reminders
The sun, it looks deceiving
from inside this warm house.
For when I took a step outside,
the wind lifted up my blouse.
“Well, that was rather rude,” I thought
as I turned back toward the door.
I let the sunshine warm my back,
then the wind came back for more.
It touched my hair, and chilled my toes,
leaves floated all around.
I looked to the sun and said, “My friend,
come closer to the ground.
I need your warmth, you seem so weak.
Is everything alright?”
The sun’s warm rays kissed my skin,
and then he sadly replied,
“The season, it’s a-changin’,
the cold wind’s blowin’ in.
Now you know I’m not as I appear
when you look through your window
again.”
As I heard his explanation, I felt
he was telling me something more…
Reminding me things aren’t always what
they seem,
and behind me, I closed the door.
