Life Is Suffering

Life is suffering
or so I’m told
said the child
to the crow
and the bird
brought her a bone
grey
as the forest before dawn
smooth
and cool to the touch
worn sharp
through rain and frost
to deliver the sick from pain
he said
to free their souls
from the burden
of flesh
and yours
from the burden
of their misery
