Life Is a Bracelet
There are so many things that have yet to be done
Before I fall asleep when my race has been won,
There are so many instances I can put right
Before I can walk softly with you in the light,
There’s are still many knots to take out of the rope
Before I can relinquish my doubts to my hope,
And though I am just human, my soul is a chain
Of floral remembrances caught in the rain.
Life is a bracelet, a daisy chain vow
More a promise I’ve taken from then until now,
A lane leading onward through nights and through days
With so many strange songs and so many strange ways,
Yet although I once limped through each hope and each dream
Looking back into shadows, they still held a gleam,
And sunrises before me hold more than sunsets
For daisy chain petals are much more than bracelets.
There’s a church by a stream in an island of calm
Where sometimes I pray, or at least sing a psalm,
And its door’s open wide to the world and its wife
Like a beautiful page in the writings of life,
I often sit down on a bench by the stream
To peruse through my poetry, and to daydream,
As my moments read with me from poetry’s song
And in those calm moments, I feel I belong…
