Life and Love
How does love twist & turn
Sometimes cool & light
Others scorch & burn
Peaks & valleys like Appalachian hills
Sometimes be careless
Or others just for thrills
How does love evolve from heat & passion
After children & careers
Yields less satisfaction
Physically, maybe so
Time can change that, we know
Though something else begins to grow
A new entrapment if you will
Like vines encasing old houses
But this is a different drill
Invisible foliage from heart to heart
Reaching & yearning
Never to wedge or cut apart
By lifes' rivers & rocks
Debates & disagreements
Hatred love blocks
Love preserved by these things
Not damaged or destroyed
Made stronger & tougher, these strings
Of invisible, hungry vines on a mission
Growing, invading, encasing
And all with the others' permission
This unified possession & control
This melding & merger of hearts
As young lovers grow old.
