Life and Death

Oh, death
You skulking bastard
Why doest thou hide
As life struggles
To be free of you
Escape your torment

And life
Why must you linger
On the edge of death’s scythe
Fading ‘neath the darkness
Of his rancid robe

Oh, life
We cling to thee
Yet still you fail us
And death’s
Ignoble presence
Cannot spare us

Hey John, I like how you gave both life and death their own voices. The tension between them comes through clearly, and the language has that sharp edge that makes me feel the struggle. I sometimes stop and think about how fragile the balance really is. Autumn Blessings, John, Daniel

Trying to walk the fine line b/t L. and D. is a devil's errand, eh?

I enjoyed reading your powerful write. Life had many questions with few answers. "Good Luck" if for a contest. Have a blessed/wonderful weekend writing away............
