Lickety Split and His Clover

Lickety Split was a novice lander elf.
He was pretty much terribly hard on himself.
I cannot conjure up ghosts like daddy, he said.
I cannot bring back spirits, I do not talk to the dead.

But you are wonderful in your own way, my child.
His parents told him with tones that were mild.
He wanted to be the best at something though.
He sat in a meadow, watching pink clover grow.

The clover began to commune with Lickety Split.
They told him when campfires were unduly lit.
They came and roused him in middle of night.
They warned him of dangers far out of sight.

Lickety Split became known as the one who knows.
How to communicate with a green thing that grows.
You are so lucky, Lickety Split. Why don’t you come over?
But he was busy, overseeing his best friends, the clover.
