Letting Go

I want to let go of the past,
And say goodbye to all the pain—
The time with you I know I lost;
The time I can’t get back again

Your love burns brightly in my heart,
And breathes new life within my soul,
And yet my grief still lingers on,
Like splintered skin not yet made whole

I promise not to let this pain
Eclipse the growing love I feel,
And cast a shadow on my path,
When what we both have now is real

For loving you means letting go
Of all that could have been before—
The buried dreams of days gone by
My heart will not forever mourn.
