Letters from the Extinct

Dear Human,
You knew me once.
I was the shadow crossing grasslands before dawn. I was the thunder of hooves. I was the cry above the marsh.
You named me. Measured me. Photographed me.
Then you archived me.
The museums keep my skeleton polished. The textbooks preserve my dimensions. The children memorize my disappearance.
I would have preferred a future.
Sincerely,
The Last of Us
