Let Us Have Friends Over
Let’s have friends over she said to her party-loving husband.
The honeymoon was over, and it was just the two of them now.
He rolled his eyes. Let’s not, he replied.
She was shocked. He had always been the guru of party animals.
The one wearing the pink boa constrictor and singing dandelion songs.
Maybe he was in a weird mood, she thought.
Not realizing this is his regular way, if he is not trying to impress a bride.
How about a barbecue? She suggested. We could invite our friends.
I do not have any friends, he said. She was shocked.
What about his best man?
Not realizing his cousin had been super reluctant.
She suggested another party, picnic, soiree, nothing motivated him.
She brought over a friend. They were singing and dancing, laughing.
Having a fine time.
Her husband said to her friend “Please quiet down. You are disturbing the cat.”
Her friend never came back.
She was horrified, seeing what the rest of her life looked like now.
