Lesson Relearned
A love match perfect until the truth won out she was a natural imp and a gifted daughter of nature
he was a darkling with mortal appearance to try and gain what wasn't his he tried to cast her into the flame
she forgave time and again until the rope tightened around her throat and he watched her strangle; until Death came and claimed her hand, Death untied the knot and let her softly land
what the darkling had toyed and destroyed now had protection of an ancient guardian no matter the life she led
broken mind to hide from a heart
she walked away loving him
the cruelty in his eyes had destroyed her from within
money had become his passion his truest love
he made his choice of stone stealing her voice and turning cold
cloth of green and coins his preferred loves
the flesh and blood woman he turned away
forgetting how her smile made his heart sway
Forgetting how it felt to hold her tight
the way she smiled when he leaned in the doorframe watching her as she wrote a poem with a passionate light
he forgot all the moments he had once treasured
In a moment of pain and of anger she let her mind break
the facts of the past destroyed with the flames of mistrust
she hides precious moments in her heart of hearts
her treasures that give both happiness and despair
but protects her heart from the things that will never be able to be repaired
the friendship lost the long talks that are still yearned for but are never to be
always a someday always a maybe but truly will never come to pass
for the love once there now lies under a willow with a stone that reads "Hanged 1668"
unforgiven as he had accused her Now haunted as she remembers what he had hidden in her pocket
a pendant carved a heart with a star within the other side the words in Gaelic Mo Ghaol "My Beloved" as he had seen her from afar and had fallen in love until she was poor and he turned her away shutting a door then the past replayed the lesson to protect her from feeling the same fate as before.
