Left Behind
I stand outside; rain stinging my face
Looking to this wide open space
Hoping for a single trace
Of what you left behind
Reaching up I grasp for air
Hoping death will take me there
Needing you; do I dare?
I’m who you left behind
A soulless heart consumed with pain
Now signaled by this blood, this stain
Love so true has now been slain
I won’t be left behind
So close I can almost touch your face
Your arms around me; that sweet embrace
As you whisper, “This is no place”
For the one you left behind
Coming back from Heaven’s door
In angel’s wings; upon the shore
I’m left to see that I am more
Than what you left behind
