Left Behind

I left my love behind and wandered all alone
When I was young and restless, no sins to atone
The world was just for me and I was made for it
And anything I did was easy to forget

From time to time I thought of what I'd left behind
But I was looking forward , what had passed was blind
So forge ahead I did and emptied out my past
I never thought of youth as time that would not last

And then one day I looked and found that I was old
Counted all my fortunes and found they left me cold
All that I had treasured had happened in the dark
I looked at all I touched and I had left no mark

I would share my story but youth will not be told
There is no interest in what happens when you're old
I am left to wonder what became of all the years
And recall her laughing eyes seen through my own tears

Powerful message. So many truths I relate with: "I never thought of youth as time that would not last" and other lines. Marvelous, Larry. Well done.
