Leave Behind Your Best
Saddened hearts, Our eyes cast low,
for the sorrows of this land;
Are we really, doing all we can,
to lend our helping hand?
We come from backgrounds far and near,
Histories vast and yet the same;
Violence touches all of us, -yet,
we are ALL to blame.
We live our lives, day by day,
and We are all okay;
But someone somewhere’s
crying, and screaming “go away”.
We lock our doors each night,
and peacefully, we sleep;
But closer than we think,
a child, sits alone, to weep.
We tell each other that we care,
yet when the neighbours call;
We do not wish to “get involved”,
not even, if it’s small.
If actions speak louder than words,
Then we, are still in silence;
Until We take initiative,
there will, always, be violence.
When we sit alone, and pray,
we mention people, that we know;
What if we actually prayed for others too;
Let’s see how much further, those prayers will go.
We simply Are, ‘humanity’; and
humanity, is One;
Extend who you are to others too,
Without each other, We Are None.
Time ticks fast for Everyone,
We All have lives to lead;
So it’s no excuse to “have no time”
to care, for those, in need.
Look at what we leave behind,
Our legacies, and the next generation;
It’s up to us, We are Their hope;
Teach them kindness, love, and consideration.
When you have reached your journey’s end;
and you lay your soul to rest;
Make sure, that you can tell, Your God;
You gave, Your very best.
