Learnt From Loving You
“Lucky you” they say
Life can surely never be dull with
A woman like her
Intelligent to the core
Discussing, debating, all knowledgeable
The wise old sage, the oracle
The beauty they all lust
The woman who stood next to me
With my naivety, I trust
Inside her head, they could not see
Nor the wounds inflicted upon me
Her harsh words and even harder fist
That smashed against my face
That very angry place
Her frustration and humiliation
A common punch bag I’d become
Now placed in this dangerous world
From where there seemed no escape
Because I tried so hard to heal
So hard to understand and sympathize
The thousand “sorry’s”
The thousand tears
Still my love, held no fears
And so on and on for many years
Then a moment came
A breakthrough of enlightenment
If you will,
No more!
No longer can I approve
Of the cheating, the verbal attacks
The twisting of my mind.
Controlled by her words, tricking me from my sanity
And slowly came the strength, and wearily it grew
Deserving of so much more,
I packed all up and flew...
Does it make me angry?
Does it break my heart?
I guess this path I’d chosen
From the very start
I’m angry that she wastes so much negative energy
Instead of the creation that she could easily be
My heart breaks that a human, with so much passion, spirit and soul
Could hurt herself so fiercely
Unable to escape that deep, dark hole.
I’ve moved on from pain
And discovered my path true
And take with me the lessons
Learnt from loving you.
