Learning Science From Miss Bee

Miss Bee has a horsey face and looks truly old. Miss Bee was weird and tall, and sounded truly bold. I saw her and was instantly and utterly put off. Her voice was scratchy, like a worn-out brillo cough. But soon her love for science and her enthusiasm For it , Miss Bee began to teach. Concepts unheard of pre-Miss-Bee were now Within my twelve-year-old avid mind and reach. Miss Bee did not rely on a lazy teacher’s boring text, She taught us terrific stories, the best one always the next, As facts and “ologies” around me were delightfully hurled, Miss Bee opened me up to a magical scientific whole new world!

Love the description in this- of both her personally (the "horsey face" and scratchy voice "like a worn-out brillo cough"), and her passionate teaching style! Brilliant work, my friend! ;) (reading the comments... 'Hortense Gurnsey'?! What an incredible name! You couldn't have made up a better one than her real name! ;D)

She was wonderful, fell in love, got engaged, and wore her new enormous diamond around proudly after announcing her engagement. She was so vital, and fun, that I was not in the least surprised. When I was older I saw her husband and her in the grocery store where I was a check-out girl, and I loved them both. He was half her height, but they were in love.

Everybody has at least one teacher to whom they owe a great deal. I love it when teachers teach that way.

Me too. Her name was Hortense Gurnsey, and she came out of retirement at age 76 to teach us after our science teacher was removed from duty due to his thinking it would be okay to date high school girls.
