Leaf On the Stream
A listless drifting,
A quiet being,
The lonely leaf on the stream.
From whence it came
Or what it's aim
All's lost a distant dream.
And as it drifted
At last it lifted,
It lifted into the air.
It freely soared
The stream ignored,
The stream of all it's care.
Aw'fully thrilled,
With wishes filled
The sky's never been so near.
In hopeful flight
The world set right,
There was not one to fear.
But woe!
The gusty blow
Could not forever stall
The fated scheme
Back to the stream
The leaf begun to fall.
A tap, a rippling,
It went on drifting
On the stream's incessant flow.
Who could discern
The wind's return?
The leaf would never know
