Last Sniff
If Forever I can not stay with you
Don’t let me start
A journey so blue
If you’re gonna keep me locked up all day
Then leave me free now,
I’ll find a way
If you can not speak to me
without a yell
Then leave me in this lonely hell
If your hit is the only touch I feel
Then leave me to my dreams,
your soft touch feels so real
If you won’t feed and water me
Then pass me by
and leave me be
If you can’t love me,
if even so small
Then please don’t care for me at all
My favorite day,
when you brought me home
You promised forever, with you I’d belong
“He’s so old”, you said of me
But out here alone,
I’d have never dreamed
Sorrow and sadness
are real for me
As I search for things familiar to see
I waited and waited
looked all around
Until a sweet man picked me off the ground
I knew then,
you would never come back
On that day, last day with my pack
When you left me here,
I could not see your face
Only your back, as you ran like a race
I thought it was “chase”
you wanted to play
Like when I was younger, we played it all day
I am much older,
but my chase still ensued
I tried for days, But could never catch you
When I finally fell,
I’d traveled miles you see
For only with you, where I wanted to be
Now with a sadness,
and truest of notion
My very last mile, full of emotion
It was my love for you,
my eternal gift
And that’s what I felt , with my very last sniff
