Last Dance

Shall we dance?

One last chance,
 a brief compelling pirouette
the encountered merge to never forget
body, legs and toes explored in our last duet.

A rhythmic call to move,
to sway, to glide across the floor and its grooves
where hearts separate and part with nothing left to prove
slipping casually through the open heart now removed.

If the music were to stop while on the fly
could the notes and melody so easily die
as you slip into the night and disappearing sky
leaving me without a kiss, one last goodbye?

You need not speak, never say a word
the emptiness is quiet, still, unheard,
that final turn gives into a yearning blurred,
our last dance and you're released, free as a bird.

One more dance
one more effort, that longing glance
surrendered to a solo vignette trance
the last efforts of what once was romance.

Shall we dance?
