Last Breath of a Rose

As the rose died
the petals fell away from the stem
like tears

Graceful, subtle tears

Soft, delicate petals
scented with the sweetest fragrance

Dropping like dew
in the morning

Allowing the living things
to smell its last breath

While hanging on to the life
that remained
