Lament of Battle

Sound the fife, urge the drums,
Intent on the relentless foe,
Onward, onward to the battle's edge
Where the fallen of both lines grow

Keep the faith and wield the sword,
No time to fathom humane design,
Onward, onward, the drums beat on,
Count no fallen, hold the line

Stark darkness of still remind
Trophies are but rewards for laps,
Facing lines share a common bond
Flow of red and lament of taps
