Lament

A gentle pull like floating waves
Rejoicing at the freedom found
Lament for all we failed to save
It echoes still far underground

In caverns deep where sleeps the night
Near hidden waters rippling still
O’er mountains high above the light
The oceans, seas, with tears we fill

A song for all that we have lost
A cry that carries on the wind
For after Autumn comes the frost
I lost the one who I called ‘friend’

Is this, at last, the final end?
Is purpose yet to be revealed?
There’s no one left to seek or send
Whatever comes, my fate is sealed

I’ll live for those who gave their lives
I'll live for hope which comes with dawn
With every breath I have, I’ll strive
Though gone, their strength I carry on
