Lady In Rags
This lady in rags you'll see her about
Her mind in a daze running free no doubt.
There's no one to listen nor no one who cares
For this lady in rags has no joy to be shared.
She'll speak to you softly if kindness you express
If you wait to know her
You'll be weary from a life time of distrubed rest.
You may learn her name but never the rules of her game
For she learned them thru wasted years
And many, many spilled tears.
Accept her as she is
Try hard to hide your heartbreaking tears
For you will not change her or replace those missing years.
Clean her up you may do
But to mend her heart there's not enough glue.
With her dreams all shattered and the pieces far gone
It matters not to her if it's day, night or just breaking dawn.
If you chose to know this lady in rags
You must leave her memories lying peacefully aside.
Never question her of things you want to know of the past
Don't test your friendship for her to retrace those lonely paths.
If your friend she becomes and this she may do
Cherish the times you'll spend and the knowledge you'll share
Remember they cost her a life time to earn.
You see so few want her friendship and it's just as well
For what do they know of such paths she's had to tread.
