Knock : On Effects

A tiny spore rides the breeze
drifting about, so much at ease
Here comes 5 billion more
barely enough, to fill a pore
Followed on by 10 trillion plus
save a single one, superfluous
For nature knows only too well,
not every niche becomes a citadel

Lose your place ready or not,
something else takes its spot
Dung beetles lay dying around
tuskless elephants on the ground
But wait! that superfluous spore
descends to thrive amongst the gore
Very next day a mushroom grows
atop my city, 100 million C glows

this is so inventive, David. Nature is most interesting!!! Reading your replies to comments below, I see that you took the message further than how I understood. But rereading the ending, I get it now. So sadly true.

Thanks Andrea, I couldn’t resist morphing the poem from a microscopic spore into a nuclear Armageddon mainly using numbers, and a little imagery, cheers David

Yes all must eventually succumb to nature. Well expressed David.

Thank you Richard I can see how I probably mislead the reader to think it’s all about nature, but in the end man takes over the spores and fills every niche with nuclear fallout, cheers David

Beautiful writing, David. Unfortunately, nobody seems to care about reality; it is almost as if five million people is not enough. As long as every government didn’t place their responsible accountable, things will probably not change, but it will not happen because of the large number of powerful lobbyists who hold the majority of this money-making phenomenon. Best wishes dearest friend

Thank you Lasaad, I’m delighted you get a meaning from this one, it’s purposely vague, however the final two lines I purposely equate the mushroom to the nuclear warhead detonating in anger, at some time in the future, cheers David

Imagery of the dung beetles and elephants was so sad but mother nature is always there to surprise us, yeah amazing how these spores can survive and multiply so rapidly (a bit like covid) our cases will escalate like rockets - our moronic government allowing amber and green list travelers to come to the Island, already got over 2000 cases since 21st June:-( hugs Jan xx

Thank you Jan, it really is insane to be opening up now, just as we’re making inroads with the vaccine, my poem is sad, I purposely left it open to one’s imagination, has quite a few meanings, cheers David
