Kindness Is

Kindness is…
Kindness is the harmony of birds’ songs in the breeze It’s the way the moon so hauntingly reflects with calming ease It’s heaven’s chorus ‘round the world while folks pray on their knees Umbrella sharing, homeless shelters, shade from tall oak trees Kindness is a child handing you a wild daffodil A patient, helping hand when you have caused a major spill Acts of empathy, warm soup, and comfort when you’re ill Advice no matter length nor wear to help you find your will Kindness is sharing smiles with random strangers you meet It’s noticing the crowded bus and giving up your seat Holding wide the heavy door until the last entry Making someone’s day a win instead of a defeat Kindness is the text I cherish from my precious son A compliment, a subtle nod, a hug from a loved one Kindness, tangible or not, an idea never done Be selfless, and each day create your kindest tale yet spun… 1st Place! This seems too simple, but the most effective : "Kindness is sharing smiles with random strangers you meet". You deserved a win for this and here's a smile :))) too

There are so many lovely phrases in this captivating and heartwarming ode to kindness, Meghan... "Kindness is a child handing you a wild daffodil" reminds me of when my kids were young, "sharing smiles with random strangers" (how warm it feels to receive or give one of those smiles), "comfort when you’re ill" (thank you, caregivers!) the nods to nature and faith in stanza 1, and relationships in stanza 4. Such an arms-wide-open cornucopia of kindness (given and received) demonstrating your own kind and empathetic heart. I can't imagine this not doing well in Angela's contest. Sending this one to my faves to return to again and again. Blessings to you ~ John

My wonderful friend John, You are too KIND always!! Your feedback never fails to make me smile, & I love looking at my poetry in a deeper way, which is what you allow me to do when you pull out specific parts of my writing. I did write a lot of this poem from experiences I've had, & other parts in what I hope other people will emulate in their own lives. When my sweet students give me "flowers" that I know will make me sneeze all day, I still put them in my hair to show them how much their act of kindness means. Compliments and even the smallest acts of kindness spread like wildfire! Thank you, John, and sending you a million thanks for your acts of kindness! Love, Meghan

An act of kindness only takes a moment of our time but the rewards, though unseen, are great. Nicely stated, Meghan, good luck in the contest. John
