Notes About The Poem

Three men arrived here yesterday, got off the ferry and went to a shop to purchase alcohol before they went to their hotel. All of them were wearing face masks which alerted the shop keeper, who reported them to the police. They got taken to prison and up in court by video link today … all got hefty fines and suspended prison sentences as they were ‘key workers’ and had been wearing masks. 

Keeping Our Island Safe

My country
Covid free

Ferry trip
causes gyp

Men arrive
Then they drive

To the shop
Where they stop

To buy drink
Didn’t  think

They’d done bad…
Are they mad!

Their downfall
Alcohol

Contravene
Quarantine

Stupid fools
Broke set rules   -

NO stopping
For shopping!

Put in jail
With no bail

Must conform
To OUR norm

Our law spurned
Lessons learned

Cross that line
Get HUGE fine
