Keeper Of The Sea

At a very young age He knew what he wanted to be Like his father before him A ‘Keeper of the Sea’ He married his childhood sweetheart They loved unconditionally Dreams and hopes for the future Of raising a family They lived in the lighthouse cottage A loving home comfortable and cosy They didn’t have or want for much A happy life lived modestly Both felt at one with the lighthouse Admired the splendor and strength of the sea The magnificence of the night sky Awed by the stars and moon's artistry Sadly, the universe had different plans She left this world prematurely A devastated broken man Now alone in his lighthouse by the sea The years rolled by slowly An old man now was he Still in his beloved lighthouse As ‘Keeper of the Sea’ Each night since she passed he talked to her He felt her presence and love in the Lantern Room It soothed his lonely soul and his sorrow Being closer to heaven, the stars and the moon

When you do ‘lonely’ Deb.., you sure hold no punches… there’s lonely, and there’s lonely in a lighthouse… remind me never to upset you… ha ha… seriously… a splendidly(?) sad write. Terry

Wow, what an interesting write ! The depth of insight to such a calling and a world of demands with responsibilities shared .....But within the piece I hear more ... I hear you,,,, to write of such things one must have understanding of such lonely loss. I hope it's not too close. Darrell

Hello Deb m M. I love the lighthouses. It does not matter which one, they are all beautiful in their own way. I sometimes visioned myself and a faceless husband living there. Hugs. /Darlenex/
