Keep Doing What You Do
Happy Father’s Day to you, my roommate and friend.
Here’s a poem written for you in my usual style.
As you look ahead to the years coming around the bend,
I hope you see your family and it makes you smile.
You seem to take great care in loving those around you,
Especially those to whom you speak daily on the phone.
It’s nice to see someone who loves what they do.
Yes, the last two lines were written while I was stoned.
All kidding aside, I’m glad to have gotten to know you.
You keep pushing me in ways that can only be good.
Every time we talk, you encourage me in what I do.
See…I do listen to my elders, as a young man should.
Seriously, Steve, do what you do for the rest of your life,
And remember the people around you who show their love.
Just look to your friends, your children, and, of course, your wife.
And I’m sure your mother’s proud, as she loves you from above.
