Keen Mind of Her Own

She wanted to spend all of her birthday money on llama socks.
They were beautiful, blue llamas with lavender and marigold stripes.
Fluffy tassels on the side; but they were costly.
She had twenty dollars total.
With tax, these socks were going to take most of it.
Her mother tried to talk her out of it.
Took her to the dollar store.
Pointed out a multitude of things she could buy.
She bought the llama socks.
Loved them, kept them until she was grown.
At age forty-two, she might still have them.
She knew what she wanted.
A girl with a keen mind of her own.
