Just Dust
Shafts of sunlight
Fill the room
Brightening my day,
Banishing gloom.
Specks of dust
Glittering in light;
Almost nothingness,
Nearly out of sight.
A thin film
Coats a golden scale,
Despicable dust -
Finger writes a trail.
Of such we are made,
From the simple earth
Yet, how important,
How much we are worth.
The bully may feel
You are nothing but dirt,
A useless nobody,
He piles on the hurt.
It matters not
What colour or hue,
What’s important is
That you are you.
A special person,
Of that you can trust;
No, you’re not a nobody,
You’re much more than dust.
