Just A Pawn

[Verse 1]
You held my heart in your hands
My heart, though, misunderstands
It is sure that you mean forever
But you were only being clever…

[Chorus]
So clever that I never knew
What was coming for me and you
You would go and I would stay
Praying, you might return one day

[Verse 2]
You chose to leave me, but that’s the past
Will you remember? Will that memory last?
Do you still think of me like I do you?
Together, we were a special that you outgrew

[Chorus]
So clever that I never knew
What was coming for me and you
You would go and I would stay
Praying, you might return one day

[Verse 3]
You held my hand and you held my love
I was sure you were sent by God above
When you left me, you didn’t say
Were you just bored, and couldn’t stay?

[Chorus]
So clever that I never knew
What was coming for me and you
You would go and I would stay
Praying, you might return one day

[Bridge]
You were so clever – I never knew
You must have gone where the wind blew
You were my lover, my friend, my life
Without you, darling, there is so much strife

[Outro]
You were so clever – I never knew
I never expected what you put me through
The past is gone now and I’m moving on
Moving on, no longer your pawn… moving on
No longer your pawn
