Just a Memory
Looking back over time
with nothing but years in the distance
I am lost to what is left to find
accepting all as it is, without resistance.
Too many years slipped away
with nothing but memory to remain,
and happily I greet the day
with lessons tasked of youth to gain.
Children of the future look for answers to end tyranny
but I am aged, least able to see ahead
and all that's left of me, is faded memory
with life's lessons taught on love and hate that bled.
Is every future lost to some fool's wild whims
while time is marked by tragic history recorded
with genocide and wars darkening the shadowy din
of yesterday, today and tomorrows aborted?
What is wrong and what is right
for the generations yet to come
as we slowly turn off the lights
and slip away forgetting what we've done.
For tomorrows yet to be
we soon will be, just a memory.
