My tribute to a date marked to never forget the unforgettable, on Juneteenth. It was so powerful, the inspiration to write this poem... I thought it would be longer; but the words were impactful, hard hitting and bittersweet, as I was geared for more, but suddenly, as if the One imparting the gift to me to write this, said... “Enough said.”

JUNTEENTH ANTHEM Justice without prejudice we pray, Unsung heroes paved the way. No cross, no crown, cries sing from the ground, We can still hear them singing now today. Every trail of blood that made our history, Today bookmarks the end of their misery, No pain, no pride, our scars can’t hide, Our song a forever symphony.

Lovie, I was so grateful I found this beautifully crafted acrostic that reminds us to never forget the cost of the past, nor the ground that still remains to be covered before equality is reached. I will celebrate Juneteenth every year for the remarkable turning point it represented. Keep writing, my friend ~ John
