July

The sun’s so hot it shimmers
Through humid, pulsing air,
And beach sand burns the feet
         Of children hopping there.
There’s a more than fragrant odor
Of coconut oil and lotion.
Umbrellas sprout like flowers
On the shore beside the ocean!

As for myself, I like to swim
When the afternoon’s cooled down,
And crowds have all gone home
Or else have left for town.
If it’s hot I’d rather read
On the shady, breezy porch
And leave the other people
To sun themselves and scorch!

I love the smell of barbecue
That wafts along the breeze.
I think I’ll call my neighbor
And ask to try some, please!
Yes, July’s a time for leisure
To do whate’er you will
So, decide to DO or NOT to do -
Whatever fills the bill!

Lovely sentimental verse. July always seems to go by so quickly. Enjoy your summer.

Thanks for the lovely compliment. Yes, I don't know where July went! Can't believe it's almost mid-August.
