John's Departure

While his presidential jet idled on the runway
Many good people came to mourn
Oh,
A troubled American nightmare had woken
On that day when they murdered John
It was such a dark heartbreak moment
Men cried as his coffin became airborne
Voices of liberty echoed across the sky
As he left us
Broken and alone
Now beyond our tears
On his final journey home

It's indeed heart wringing to know, when innocence was being graved! A great write with the living imageries! The very picture of tyranny and painful destiny got enlivened!

Hello, Michael, I meet you through this poem. I was 12 in 1963 and your poem still brought tears. I am not sure the love & mourning for JFK will ever end, just as 9/11 is still raw.. Your poem is stark, moving & emotive, also befitting John Jr. A succinct write with felt imagery. More! Be well…
