Jesus
I know you
You started as a name
spoken
with reverence
but never in temple
I felt nothing
sometimes I felt irritated
I didn't know You
Then one day I became interested
explored you in books
but did not believe You to be part of God
A man only
A very good man only
then years later
me a Jewish woman
in the depths of despair
having lost everything that mattered
feeling the weight of guilt and regret
Met You
no more were You a man only
or a religious figure for others
a being I once rolled my eyes about upon hearing You praised
You were in all Your glory;
your fiery white
your gentle hello
your chiseled shimmery profile
close enough
to touch
A part of God or God's physical being or his son
My background
so much of me in it
leaves me unable to define you
but I know You now
and can never again deny You
