Jealousy

Jealousy

Jealousy it’s green head pokes
Swirling embers fire stokes
Deep inside a heart so tattered
Each waking breath illusions shattered
The dream is slipping far away
Cautious threads start to fray
I see their happiness shine through
Together creating something new
Each smile makes my heart grow dim
Flickering truths the future grim
Seeing in them what I want for me
My soul is broken like a gnarled tree
Along the sidelines I sit and stare
My heart of hearts fills with despair
The easy happiness they share
They have each other’s love and care
A reminder of forgotten dreams
Shadows dodging sunlight’s beams
With each tender kiss they share
A little piece of my soul does tear
Happiness for what they’ve found
Yet sadness pins me to the ground
Knowing it will never be me
A heart so light and fancy free
