Jason At The Gates
I learned young to keep the world at distance,
every kindness hiding teeth behind a grin.
They wanted what my mind could give them,
never cared for what was shaking underneath my skin.
So I built my quiet like a fortress,
stone and sorrow rising high above the ground.
I lived inside the echo of my silence,
where no one ever tried to turn the walls around.
I taught myself that safety meant retreating,
that solitude was easier than pain.
But every vow I made to stay protected
is shifting now because you said my name.
Resistance plays nasty games —
Jason stay by the gates.
Once they open, take ahold of the moment,
push against my silence,
I am scared of arrival.
Stay with me — don’t fade out.
Hold the line — don’t back down.
Break the walls — break the sound.
I’m scared of arrival,
but I want you around.
We will never fade,
not from obscurity,
not from age.
We are immortal on the page.
Run to me, Jason.
I need to feel the rush,
break me open and silence the hush.
Cacophony in the air,
all my hidden selves,
laid bare.
I spent years assuming every motive,
every smile a bargain, every touch a trap.
People only came to take my usefulness,
never stayed to see the ruins in the gaps.
But you move through my defenses like a sunrise,
gentle as a tide against a long closed shore.
And I find myself wanting to be seen now,
wanting to show you what I never showed before.
You make the quiet feel like something sacred,
not a hiding place, but somewhere I can breathe.
And I’m learning how to open up the chambers
I once believed no one would ever see.
Resistance plays nasty games —
Jason stay by the gates.
Once they open, take ahold of the moment,
push against my silence,
I am scared of arrival.
Breathe with me — breathe in slow.
Don’t let the quiet take control.
Breathe with me — let it go.
I’m choosing you,
even when I don’t know.
We will never fade,
not from obscurity,
not from age.
We are immortal on the page.
Run to me, Jason.
I need to feel the rush,
break me open and silence the hush.
Cacophony in the air,
all my hidden selves,
laid bare.
You move like someone born for quiet heroics,
not with armor, but with gentleness and grace.
And I feel the battlements begin to soften
each time your voice drifts softly through this place.
I’m finding pieces of myself I lost in silence,
finding colors I believed were gone for good.
If I open up the door a little further,
will you step inside the way I hoped you would.
You hit my walls like thunder rolling,
like a ship breaking through a storm of stone.
Every locked-up chamber starts shaking,
every hidden fracture calling out your name.
I’m burning through the fear I carried,
letting the armor fall from where it clung.
If the gates blow open in the chaos,
catch me — don’t let the moment come undone.
Clash at the gates, Jason,
and climb straight up —
my walls evaporate.
Jason, stay awake.
This is the moment we can’t fake.
