Jamaica My Day

Jammed some fun into one day
Aboard kayaks, paddling play
Mangroves, stingless jelly fish
And in my head, a hand itched

In beats, a beach reggae-tunes
Crashing waves upon the dunes
As curling smiles seemed to mock
Monster cruiser at the dock

Yellow sun did set too fast
Dashing night on anchor cast
Awhirl the sea’s brooding deep
Yesterdays pile on the keep

I have now tried my hand at jueju poetry after some internet "studies": Dawn Song. The design definition here on PS is misleading as it is not usually written in rhyming couplets, but seems to refer to "matching couplets" as the relationships between the first two and last two lines of the quatrain. It does appear as though you had a grand day out reflected in your poem :)) ~Sus

Lol! A happy or lucky mistake...how many inventions were the result of that ?! I love curries - my reviews are very subjective but I recalled some of what i had researched in jueju a while ago :)

I agree. I will go nuts if my spices are mixed up. I once, inadvertently, used cinnamon instead of Tumeric (adjacent on my spice rack) in a curry dish. Guess what? It was a rather pleasing result and I have used it again in some of my dishes. I have now removed "that poem" and will sleep on it. Thanks for the feedback - it is always good (to my mind) to get an honest feedback. :)) ~Sus

i can’t find the one jueju i wrote with the Chinese rules i also researched when i started soup..since then I realized the rules are very loose so i mislabel my forms happily lol it would drive me nuts elsewhere like if my spice jars are mislabeled tho once i used cumin instead of cinnamon coz all i saw was the C and presumed the rest but the jars were exactly the same otherwise It was a lovely day but too fast paced for me :)

Pure seductive poetry, Susan. I fell in love w/Jamaica. Ocho Rios is where my heart long to live. Golden ink shines timelessly. An instant fave for sure. Love and joy forever.

thank you Freddie...I only spent a day there but it reminded me so much of Fiji which is where I grew up only all the jellyfish there sting! It took a lot for me to scoop the glassy things into my hand then on the paddle back I thought my hand was itching but my daughter said it was all in my head lol It is a place I want to revisit and actually spend a longer time exploring :)
