Jack Derider

A word ain’t worth a hill of beans.
Grafitti for computer screens,
a word can’t tell you what it means
(the thing it’s in existence for).

Each age forms self-defining views,
infatuations and taboos,
its West Points and its Waterloos,
but balks at what the butler saw.

The less that’s said, the sooner mended.
Nothing’s ever open-ended.
Some people want to be offended,
and so it shall be, ever more.

Beautifully written and rhymed Michael. I'm probably going off on a tangent and off track here here but I'm reminded of rage bait and the sad overall loss of debate within society. I'll add too that I'm reminded of those that straightaway verbalise an opposite view just for the sake of argument and those that seek relief by transferring their own upset and anger on to other people and situations. I think too much sometimes and annoy myself in the process. :) Cheers - Gary

Thank you Michael. It's an excellent poem. I believe one of the problems is that kids / adults today are taught what to think and not how to think. Cheers - Gary
