Ivory Letters

"I sought in my heart to give you
the ivory letters that say always,
always, always, always, garden of my agony,
your body elusive always, ..."

- Frederico Garcia Lorca

************************************

Ivory letters are saved for him
in that box beneath the elm,
and when he comes to read them,
they will affect him so.

"Dearest," they say, "Dearest,
I'll love you through the mist",
(and when ivory letters tell you,
they tell it with a kiss).

And on that misty morning
underneath the elm,
the ivory letters will shake with him
in emotion, overcome.
