Ive Got To Learn To Say No

Message after message
Always troubled with concerns
I lend an ear - a voice
You’d think by now I would have learned

Hours and hours of drama
Filled with emotional selfish needs
Is this how you treat your best friend?
Dumping everything on me

I use reason and logic
To keep her calm and reassured
I can’t tell if she is listening
Her response is loquaciously immature

I like to think that I am helping
But it’s hurting me so
Taking advantage of our friendship
I’ve got to learn to say no

Another message another evening
Its seems her friends have let her down
She just needed someone to talk to
She always knows I’ll be around

She started talking about them badly
She probably talks the same about me
Sometimes it makes me wonder
If helping her is killing me

So I’ll send another message
It helps her sleep throughout the night
But as I lay here in the darkness
I hope and pray I’ll be alright

It’s going to take some time
Change begins with me - this I know
Taking advantage of our friendship
I’ve got to learn to say no
