It's Not About Me
Help me to see
what I could truly be
If I took the leap of faith
And did not hesitate
If I stopped putting myself first
And of others, no longer thought the worst
How do I shift the attention?
When I have so much more to mention?
It’s not always about me, me, me
I need to be a giving tree, tree, tree
I must practice what I preach, preach, preach
I need to learn so I can teach, teach, teach
I can’t stop talking
Even when those around me are balking
Help me to stop and listen
And notice how her eyes glisten
With an excitement for what she’s sharing
And an appreciation for my caring
My caring enough to give her a turn
Finally, have I opened myself up to learn?
What I’ve been missing all along
While I was trying to be strong
Hiding my insecurities
Keeping me from falling to my knees
It’s not always about me, me, me
I need to be a giving tree, tree, tree
I must practice what I preach, preach, preach
I need to learn so I can teach, teach, teach
Help me to grow
So that others will know
What you see is what you get
Just like on the day you and I first met
